Irritable Bowel Syndrome – The Foods You Can Eat

Irritable bowel syndrome is a gastrointestinal disorder characterized by recurrent abdominal discomfort.The main symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome are: abdominal pain, intestinal and abdominal triggers, irregular chairs, diarrhea or constipation, and abdominal distension.

These may be associated with other symptoms related to the gastrointestinal tract or any other organ.

The treatment for irritable bowel doesn’t depend on an effective medication, but on a proper diet. In general, doctors recommend medication to improve intestinal function, but in special cases, antidepressant are required, which has the ability to act on neurotransmitters involved in bowel function.

You should exclude from your diet foods that contains fructose and sorbitol (especially yeast juice), because they ferment and cause pain.

In general, hygienic-dietetic recommendations for patients with irritable bowel are based on a diet rich in fiber, such as vegetables, fruits and whole bread.

In some cases, it’s recommended to supplement the diet with pharmaceutical product that helps in the formation of faeces especially in cases of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) with diarrhea.

Regarding the recommended diet, fats should be avoided, and in general, the foods that the patient recognizes as “challengers” of the symptoms, which can be spices, gum (sorbitol), cheese, pastry, dairy products, coffee, chocolate and others.

You should consume foods that are high in proteins. Avoid carbonated drinks and some vegetables that produce a high flatulence, such as peas, legumes and cauliflower. The most recommended drink is water, especially when you are confronted with an IBS with constipation.

People with irritable bowel syndrome should focus on the right way of eating.

In order to minimize emotional stress situations that can trigger the recurrence of irritable bowel symptoms, it’s recommend to do some sport, exercises of to practice mediation and relaxation exercises.
